- Professor Kyung-sung Lee Directed "Borderline" to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the German Reunification Professor Lee Kyung-sung of the Department of Theatre was the first Korean director to be invited to the Munich Residenz theater, National Theater of German and direct the "Borderline" to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the reunification of Germany. - School of Art takes 51-100th place(World), 2nd place(South Korea) in “2019 QS World Ranking by Subject: Art & Design“
- In the annual World University Academic Evaluation published by QS, Sungkyunkwan University's School of Art has ranked 51-100th in the world among 201 universities and 2nd among universities in South Korea in the field of 2019 QS World Ranking by Art & Design. QS World Ranking by Subject evaluates universities’ rankings in 48 different subjects including the Art & Design subject all around the world. Among them, as for Art & Design subject, Royal College of Art in the U.K. ranked 1st in the world, and Tongji University in China ranked 1st in Asia, while Seoul National University ranked 38th in the world, and 1st in South Korea. Our School of Art ranked 2nd among universities in South Korea, followed by Ewha Womans University, Hanyang University, Hongik University and Korea University in the top 101-150 list. For the recent three years, School of Art in SungKyunKwan University has ranked 51-100th in 2017 from QS World University Ranking by Art & Design Subject. In 2018, it dropped slightly to 101-150th in the world, but again rose to 51-100th in 2019.

- “We aim for top 50 in the world ranking” – Interview with President SHIN
- On June 15th, President Dong Ryeol SHIN met with the alumni in United States at the 18th North America alumni association meeting in New Jersey. President SHIN said, “I came to United States to visit Ivy League schools for interaction with excellent scholars and to join the regular alumni meeting. North American alumni have been contributing to our university greatly.” The President also claimed, “the competitiveness of universities depends on acquiring excellent team of professors. - School of Art – Drexel University(U.S.A) Signs for Academic Cooperation MOU
- SKKU School of Art and Drexel University's Westphal College signed an MOU for academic cooperation on May 24th, 2018. Dean of School of Art, SKKU(Sunjin HWANG) and Dean of Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, Drexel University(Allen SABINSON) signed the agreements. The MOU is expected to be a groundwork of the two universities for research activities and mutual cooperation in the field of art. Dr. Jaeyoon JUNG visited SKKU representing Drexel University. The department of Design in SKKU and Drexel University has had active interaction in global capstone design education since 2016.

- FRESH Art Fair 2018
- The department of Fine Art has hold 'FRESH Art Fair 2018' opening ceremony on May 9th 6pm in the Sungkyun Gallery. For this year, 'FRESH Art Fair' got much spotlights in the meaning that the year 2018 is 20th anniversary from the birth of the department. This exhibition shows 100 art works and products of 85 artists. The singer-songwriter, Soyoen Park(also known as NAVID), opened the event by presenting an amazing performance. Dean of the School of Art, Sunjin Hwang has participated and gave an celebrating address. This exhibition continues until May 21st in Sungkyun Gallery. The gallery welcomes everyone who is willing to enjoy the art works.

- Traditional and Unique Freshman Orientation, ‘Shin Bang Rye’ was held
- To welcome the new semester of 2018, 250 freshmen, including international students, participated in SKKU’s traditional and unique orientation ‘Shin Bang Rye’, held at the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus from March 10th ~ 11th. ‘Shin Bang Rye’ is a traditional freshmen orientation stemming from the Joseon Dynasty, where newcomers can learn about the education curriculum, campus life, and expected behavior. The event that commenced during the ‘Shin Bang Rye’ ritual process are as follows: Al-Sung (commemorative rites in front of Dae-Sung-Jun), Sang-Eup-Rye (formal greetings between seniors and freshman students), Shin-Bang-Rye (welcoming party by sharing food), and Myun-Shin-Rye (initiation ceremony where senior students provides various tasks to freshmen). For 2018 Shin Bang Rye, 27 international students from various countries, including China, France, Morocco, Germany, Czech Republic, Vietnam, etc. participated to experience the culture and history of the Joseon Dynasty. “We tried to make a unique orientation by combining traditional and modern environments. We will continuously try our best to organize special and unique events with novel ideas,” said student Min Gyung OH, president of the student association ‘Chung Ryang’.
