- SKKU Enters Top 100 in THE World Reputation Rankings for First Time
- SKKU has placed within top 100 in World Reputation Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE) for the first time. On July 15th, THE announced the World Reputation Rankings 2017. In the evaluation, three universities in Korea were listed in Top 100: Seoul National University (45th), KAIST (81~90th), and SKKU (81~90th). Meanwhile, Harvard University ranked No. 1 for the seventh year in a row while MIT and Stanford University placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The THE World Reputation Rankings 2017 are based on an opinion survey of 10,566 academic scholars in 137 countries. Full analysis can be checked at THE’s website: www.timeshighereducation.com

- SKKU College of Social Sciences Reward for the 2016 most excellent teachers.
- College of Social Sciences designated two instructors as the most excellent teachers. The two laureates were selected based on academic principles and evaluation from students in 2016. The awards ceremony was held on June 22nd. Myoungsuk Lee, Dean of the College of Social Sciences, awarded them with prize money and present on behalf of SKKU’s President. Boyoung Jung, Il-young Chung were selected as the best teachers of 2016.

- 2017 Rhee Seung-man Scholarship
- Lee Myoung Seok, Dean of Social Sciences college, delivered Rhee Seung-man scholarship to students of Political Diplomacy on 17 May at International Multimedia Room, SUSEON Hall. The scholarship was established by the founder of Rhee Bros., Inc., Rhee Seung-man(Political Diplomacy 59), amounting to 300 million won. He has also donated SKKU various scholarship programs since 2001, supporting SKKU students financially. His fellow Lee Jong-man (Political Diplomacy 59) delivered scholarship to stidents on behalf of Mr. Rhee.

- 2017 fire safety education
- 2017 Social Sciences college held fire safety education. Social Sciences college held fire safety education for the student council on 24 May 18:30 p.m. at International Multimedia room(61907), SUSEON Hall. This education program was supervised by SKKU management department, teaching students how to control fire accidents in the first place and how to use fire-fighting appliances. Above all, the purpose of the program is to raise awareness toward fire safety and prevention.

- Graduate Kim Jung-gyu, granting a scholarship to SKKU students
- Kim Jung-gyu, the graduate of Public Administration, donated 100 million won to support Public Administration majors on 25 April, 2017. In the scholarship ceremony, he said, “ I am proud of SKKU as one of the graduates and want to support SKKU juniors. I also hope that this scholarship would help students lay the foundation for their bright future and I am going to fund scholarship programs down the road.”

- SKKU has proved to be a ‘Global Top University'
- Beyond one of the renowned universities in Korea, SKKU has proved to be a ‘Global Top University’ by placing high in evaluation rankings. Recently, SKKU placed 13th in the ‘Asia University Rankings 2017’ by Times Higher Education, while ranking 1st among Korean comprehensive private universities. The Times stated that “from continuous development, SKKU is leading changes among Korean higher education institutions.” SKKU declared a ‘New Challenge Project’ last year in order to step forward and become a globally renowned university. This project includes action plans to be placed in the Asia top 10 and World top 50 from competitions with international universities. SKKU is strengthening its networks with research-oriented universities of the world, such as expanding joint forums with top engineering schools in the US. This year, SKKU plans to hold a join forum with the University of Minnesota in the field of Nano and Physics and SKKU-PKU forum with Peking University, China. The President of SKKU, Kyu Sang CHUNG said “I am very happy to see these results which represent SKKU’s hard work over the past years. Through the ‘New Challenge Project’, SKKU will focus on developing its core strategy and becoming a world renowned university.” Since Samsung Foundation joined SKKU management in 1996, the university has shown rapid development. Nowadays, SKKU is working on education innovation with Samsung to cultivate the most talented engineers. Also, many convergence programs and systems are in the process of development according to the needs of the 4th industrial revolution era.

- A big heart shape showed up in the Gloden Lawn Square!
- Introduction to Sociology class’s 80 students made a big heart shape for 15 minutes in the Golden Lawn Square. This pop-up event aimed to encourage spirit of community. Prof. Jungwoo Koo, who designed this campaign, said “I and my class make this event every year in hoping the integration and the recovery of our society. I think mutual understanding and consideration is the key to cover the cracks in the current society.”

- Prof. Hee Ok LEE Receives NEAR Scholar Award
- The North East Asia Research (NEAR) Foundation will hold its 10th anniversary and NEAR Scholar Award ceremony on May 21st at the Westin Chosun Hotel. Dr.Hee Ok LEE, a professor of the department of Political Science and Diplomacy in SKKU, was selected to receive the award for suggesting visions and strategies on Korean diplomacy.

- Dr.Im Myeong Ok, a tenured professor, Department of Mass Communication at Loyola University
- Im Myeong Ok is going to start her second life as a tenured professor, Department of Mass Communication at Loyola University of Chicago. She got her doctorate in Journalism and Mass Communication at SKKU. Her great achievement is surprising because she does not have any experience in studying abroad. She is the first graduate of SKKU, appointed as a tenured professor. Mrs. Im has worked for a marketing company for 20 years. She assisted foreign businesses in gaining confidence in Korea. At the age of 36, she was appointed as CEO of a foreign marketing company. She said, “I want to make good use of business skills in learning.” She wrote papers on risk management, re-examining companies’ failures.
