- 9th Citizen Police Academy by Hyehwa Police Station
- 24 SKKU students of Social Sciences Department participated in the 9th citizen police academy by Hyehwa police station from July 19 to 22. This program is co-operated with local residents and educates students about how to prevent crimes including online fraud. Also, policemen visited educational institutions for furter demonstration. Student Choi Hee Jin said he would pay more attention to online fraud and voice phishing, and that the experience was great. Students who participated in this program were granted program certificates.

- 2016 Dean’s Scholarship Award for student clubs.
- Song Hae Ryong, Dean of Social Science School, awarded students clubs Dean’s Scholarship on June 27th at Dean’s office. The ceremony began in 2015. 10 students clubs were granted scholarships. These clubs have made efforts to improve reputations of SKKU Social Science School and also have been active in attending their clubs in 2016.

- SKKU School of Social Science Reward for the 2015 Most Excellent Teachers
- The School of Social Science designated two instructors as the most excellent teachers. The two laureates were selected based on academic principles and evaluation from students in 2015. The awards ceremony was held on June 17th. Song Hae Ryong, Dean of Social Science School, awarded them with prize money on behalf of SKKU’s President. Professor Jung Tae In (Sociology), Professor Sim Hee Won (Child and Youth) were selected as the best teachers.

Professor Lee Yang Hee (Department of Child and Youth) was elected head of Coordination Committee of Special Procedures at the UNCHR On June 10th. The professor has served as a Human rights Special Reporter for Myanmar. She will work next year. For the first time, a Korean was elected the head of the UN Coordination Committee of Special Procedures since the UNCHR opened. Not only that, she becomes the first Korean working for as a Human Rights Special Reporter and Asian National Reporter. Special Procedures is one of the most important bodies the UNCHR. There are three major parts : Special Rapporteur, Independent Expert, Working Group. Experts are selected as a mandate holder to assess each country’s conditions of Human rights and also provide guidelines. Mandate holders work independently, not as a representative of groups or states. Currently, there are 14 tasks for states and 41 missions for human rights at the UNCHR.

- Agreement between SKKU Department of Social Science and Michigan State University
- On June 7, Prabu David, Dean of the School of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University visited the SKKU Department of Social Science and signed an agreement for academic exchange. Song Hae Ryong, the Dean of the School of Social Science and Jung Seong Eun, a professor of Mass Communication, participated in this agreement. The two parties agreed to work together by sharing academic programs such as foreign students programs, and co-researching.

- Book Fair for Caldecott Medalist by Child and Youth Department
- On May 19th, SKKU will hold a art fair “Caldecott Medalist” at Creativity Zone, the 3rd floor of the Central Library. This fair shows 78 paintings that were rewarded by the US Children library Association. From 1938 to 2016, 322 children's story writers were selected as Caldecott Medalist, including medal and honor. With this art fair, SKKU theater at Creativity Zone shows “read aloud” filmed by one of the Caldecott Medalist authors at 10-12 AM. There would be a special event for participants to make their own drawing book at 1 PM. After then, graduates of the Child and Youth Department will present their literatures regarding Caldecott Medalists’ aspects of the world at 3-5 PM. Professor Sung Ji-Hyun, head of Child and Youth Department, said that “ this event is hosted by the Child and Youth Department of SKKU and is supported by the Central Library. - The laureate of 2016 Youth Hero Prize, Yang Na-Guym
- Yang Na-Guym, Department of Consumer and Family, was selected as a laureate of 2016 Youth Hero Prize to celebrate Youth’s Month. This prize is given to those who devote themselves to improving social environments. It encourages people or groups to set good examples. This year, Yang was the only undergraduate to be rewarded. She was already chosen as 2016 Korean Bright Mind and received a commendation from President. In addition, she engaged in planning The world peace’ Day of UN and She once was a junior representative for WWF’s Earth Hour. As such, Yang has developed democratic civil citizenship and participated in voluntary work constantly. She said that She would continuously put great efforts into improving our society and globe. Futhermore, she wanted to become a international expert to address global issues such as human rights and environmental issues.
