This course will examine various issues involving counseling with children and families from diverse cultures. It will explore in depth the relationship among culture, status, ethnicity, cognitive ability, religion, physical ability, etc. Research from different countries will provide the basis for understanding the situation in Korea.
HRD5017 Child Abuse and Neglect 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 Human Resource Development - No
This course will provide a broad overview of the topic of child abuse and neglect. Including the assessment and treatment of physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. This course will also deal with the nature, causes, consequences, and societal responses to institutional and individual forms of child maltreatment. Students aim to propose legal, legislative and social reform in light of their social science understanding of violence against and by children.
HRD5018 Barriers to learning , development and participation in soceity 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 Human Resource Development - No
This course will examine the shift in the paradigm of inclusion. Special education will be viewed from the perspective of rights-based approach to learning for all children with disabilities. Education will be viewed with the purpose of reducing or eliminating barriers to learning and development. Furthermore, it will extend learning to include participation in the society. Students will be introduced to the new UN Convention on Persons with Disabilities and various other relevant documents.

This course will provide an integrative review of major research findings on resilient adaptation during childhood. Since resilience is not a child attribute that can be directly measured, it will be viewed from the perspective of dual coexisting conditions of high adversity and positive adaptation in spite of this. The concept of risk and resilience will be applied to various risk factors.
