Why are some countries more egalitarian than others? Why were some countries able to develop more successfully than others? Is there a relationship between egalitarianism and development? In answering these questions, this course explores the connections between politics and markets. Through readings, lectures, discussions, and assignments, we will examine how politics affects economic policies and policy priorities, and thus, shapes inequality and redistribution. This class offers students many cases about the current impact of A.I. and introduces how our society is responding to it.
