- [Student] Three students from the Department of Costume won the 5th MDF Fashion Design Scholarship Contest
- Jeong Jin-kyu (19th), Soyeon Yoon (19th), and Kim Min-jae (20th) of the department of costume at the 5th MDF Fashion Design Contest, where the MD Foundation of the non-profit Scholarship Foundation discovers the next promising designers to lead K-fashion in the global market. The MDF Fashion Design Contest is the largest fashion design contest in Korea that supports scholarships, and provides about 14 winners with annual tours to overseas exhibitions or up to two years of tuition and living support. The MDF contest has produced fashion designers that are exemplary to students such as Kim Ji-yong of 'Jiyong Kim', who has recently emerged worldwide. In this contest, Jeong Jin-gyu was selected as a scholarship student and received up to 10 million won per year, while Soyeon Yoon and Kim Min-jae received 5 million won for overseas fashion exhibitions. The MDF contest consists of the first design portfolio review, the second real production review, the third making test, and in-depth interviews over a total of three months, and the students of the school won the prize with excellent grades through a competition ratio of 10:1.

- Sungkyunkwan University-Hong Kong Performing Arts University to host dance creation workshop program As part of the GREP program, the Department of Dance (Director Kim Nai) visited The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for five days from January 22nd (Monday) to January 26th (Friday), 2024 to conduct the Faculty-Led Program. The program was attended by 10 undergraduate students from Sungkyunkwan University's dance department and 12 undergraduate students from Hong Kong Performing Arts University. The workshop program consisted of physical training, improvisation and creative classes, and the participating students thought about the theme of the program, "The identity of Asian artists." Under the guidance of Leila McMillan, a professor at the Hong Kong University of Performing Arts, the students agonized over their movements for five days, and on January 26 (Friday), they presented a showcase at the dance studio of the Hong Kong University of Performing Arts. Sungkyunkwan University X Hong Kong Performing Arts University Dance Creation Workshop Program continued exchanges at our university's dance department from June 24th (Mon) to 28th (Fri), 2024 as a follow-up work. The five-day program conducted physical training, improvisation and creation classes under the guidance of Professor Kim Nai of the Department of Dance. First, for physical training, Countertechnique classes, which can only be learned at Sungkyunkwan University, were held in Korea, and in improvisation and creation classes, a deeper exploration was conducted on the "identity of Asian artists." Participants presented the "Creative Process Sharing Showcase" on June 28 (Friday) at Dance Studio 1 in the annex of our university's Daffodil Hall, and students' presentations on the program process and audience questions were held. Professor Kim Nai said, "The experience gained by visiting each school twice in Korea, Hong Kong, and each other's countries is a very valuable time in that we can see the movements of students from different cultures, interact emotionally, get to know, understand, and communicate with ourselves and others." Meanwhile, the Department of Dance plans to develop a variety of international exchange programs so that students can interact, collaborate, and expand their possibilities with students from other cultures.

- Costume Department Announces Digital Runway: 2024 Virtual Fashion Showcase
- The Department of Clothing announced the virtual fashion show Digital Runway: 2024 Virtual Fashion Showcase with 32 works produced by 19 graduate students and 13 undergraduate students who took <3D Fashion Design> and (Adjunct Professor Seo Yu-ra and Professor Seo Seung-hee). This virtual fashion show is an innovative approach using digital technology, a new format that goes beyond the limits of traditional fashion shows. In the same way as the actual costume production process, the students implemented pattern production and design using the 3D CLO program, and based on this, they expressed it realistically through Unreal Engine. In particular, it emphasized sustainability and efficiency through virtual fashion shows, and explored the possibility of showcasing creative designs without the consumption of physical resources. The project focused on improving students' ability to use digital programs and equipping them with the technical competencies required by the future fashion industry. The Department of Clothing plans to lead the future of the fashion industry through various projects and research as a leader in digital fashion, including this virtual fashion show.

- Art major student Sumin Yu has won the '人' award in the Chunman Art For Young Competition Sumin Yu, a student in the art department (class of '19), was selected for the '人' award as an undergraduate student in the second annual Chunman Art For Young Competition in 2024. The Chunman Art For Young Competition, organized by the Chunman Scholarship Foundation and Samchully Group, selects and awards talents in the field of visual arts among college and graduate students. The judging panel for this competition included prominent experts from South Korea as well as Lauren Young, curator of the Whitney Museum, and Tomoko Yabumae, curator of the Tokyo Contemporary Art Museum. Sumin Yu plans to continue her artistic activities by focusing on hidden or concealed events and structures for natural landscapes, which she names her concept, 'mukbi-jayeon (默秘自然).'

- Department of Fashion Design, Weaving/Knitting Class Exhibition Held The Department of Fashion Design has announced an offline exhibition of students' works created in the Weaving and Knitting class, a major course led by Professor Jeon Hee-sang (adjunct professor). The exhibition will take place at the lobby of the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus Suseon Hall 1st floor from December 20th (Wed) to December 28th (Thurs). Additionally, an online exhibition will be held on the 5th floor of the same building from December 21st (Thurs) to December 29th (Fri). The exhibited works in this exhibition aim to express various themes, including the charming and luxurious mood of the Rococo era, awareness of environmental destruction due to rapid industrialization the healing return to nature, and the festive atmosphere of the Christmas season. These themes are conveyed through diverse weaving and knitting techniques. In the offline exhibition, visitors can directly observe the weaving and knitting structures created by the students. In the online exhibition, where students personally showcase their works through videos, attendees can enjoy the pieces accompanied by music.

- Department of Film Studies and Game Design, Successful Joint Game Design Presentation with NYU The Department of Film Studies and the Department of Game Design at the College of Arts, led by Dean Ji-sook Jung, announced the success of the Joint Game Design Presentation held in collaboration with New York University (NYU) on November 28th. The presentation was conducted under the supervision of Professor Jae-joon Lee, the research director. Students from the Department of Film Studies and Game Design embarked on the production process starting from basic game theory learning in March. Professor Ji-sook Jung, along with faculty members from the Department of Film Studies and Game Design and students, visited NYU's Game Center with five completed prototype games. Additionally, they toured various educational facilities such as NYU Tisch School of the Arts and Bobst Library and participated in an exchange session with NYU students. During the presentation held that day, a total of nine prototype games were introduced, and participants demonstrated the games they had created. They exhibited and demonstrated the games installed on smartphones, introducing the strengths and features of their games. The presentation covered the planning intentions, features, and gameplay screens of the prototypes created by Sungkyunkwan University and NYU students. Subsequently, selected games undergo evaluation by experts before proceeding to the commercialization process. As the 10-month-long game production project concludes, the Department of Film Studies and Game Design is in the process of planning for another global project. There are plans to expand the research project in collaboration with renowned art universities in Europe and Asia in the future."

- [Student Performance] The Department of Design at the University of Arts won the 11th Hanyoung Textile Design Contest.
- A large number of students from our school's design department won the 11th Korean-English Textile Design Contest in 2023. At the award ceremony on October 21, 2023, design students won a total of 36 awards, including gold and excellence prizes, at the 11th Hanyoung Textile Design Contest. Marking its 11th anniversary this year, the "Korean Textile Design Contest" is the nation's most prestigious textile design contest hosted by Hanyoung, a foundation founded by Park Jong-geun, chairman of Hanyoung Na-yum, a leading Korean textile industry, with his private investment of 10 billion won to develop the textile industry and foster talent in the textile industry. Under the three themes of "Future & Heritage", "From Earth" and "Metaverse" 1,244 points were received from students from more than 50 universities across the country and 40 universities and universities in six countries abroad. The received work was selected by a screening committee consisting of top experts in the textile industry as the second screening target by selecting professional and original textile printing works that can be commercialized, and after fierce competition, Jang Da-yeon's "Spring Tea Party" work was given the honor of the gold medal, and the prize money of 5 million won was awarded. Graduate students GEXINYI, GAO QI, and undergraduate students Kim Uni, Seo Yeo-jin, Lee Chae-young, and Hong Yoon-ji won the Excellence Award.

- The College of Social Sciences and the College of Arts Install a 'Donation Wall. The College of Social Sciences and the College of Arts have created a 'Donation Wall' engraved with the names of donors who have contributed 1 million KRW or more to the development fund. This wall is installed in the lobby of the university's Suseon Building, aiming to honor the donors' intentions and promote a culture of giving within the university. The Donation Wall for the College of Social Sciences and the College of Arts currently features the names of 1,076 donors, and there are plans to continuously add plaques for individuals who actively participate in future donation activities.

- Art College, Utilizing a Famous IP, Engages in Game Development Competition with NYU for Prototypes
- Sungkyunkwan University College of Arts Engages in Prototype Game Development Competition with NYU Using a Famous IP. The College of Arts at Sungkyunkwan University announced the first-round selections for the game proposals developed through the "Capstone Game Design" class. A total of five proposals were chosen, and the selected students will now proceed to develop prototype games based on their ideas. During the previous semester, students taking the Capstone Game Design class planned games utilizing famous content IPs. Subsequently, a total of 14 teams participated in a contest hosted by the upcoming (provisional) Game Design Department at our university, under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Plask Inc. After comprehensive evaluations considering originality, feasibility, and marketability, five proposals were selected. The chosen proposals will be developed under the guidance of Professor Lee Jaejoon from the Film and Video Department in the upcoming semester as part of the "Global Capstone Game Design" course. These projects will compete against prototype games created by NYU students using the same IP in December this year. The winning game from the final contest will go through a commercialization process and be released as the actual playable version after approximately six months. Starting in 2024, Sungkyunkwan University plans to establish a graduate program called the Game Design Department, aiming to be aligned with prestigious universities like MIT, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, and USC, in creating humanities and arts-focused game-specialized departments. This program aims to cultivate global researchers and top-notch game talents in the gaming industry, in line with future-oriented industrial environments in Korea. A university representative from the College of Arts stated, "We are creating specialized programs that enable students to conduct various research and gain practical experience in the gaming industry based on advanced curricula, industry collaborations, and programs like showcases."
