Department of Consumer Studies successfully concluded the 2023 Consumer Studies Day and the signing ceremony for the Consumer Studies Development Fund.
On July 21st (Friday), the Department of Consumer Science held the 2023 Consumer Science Day at the Do Sang-yong Advanced Lecture Hall in the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus Management Building. The event was attended by Kim Geun-se, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, as well as Honorary Professor Kim Ki-ok, Alumni Association President Yeo Jeong-hee (a professor in the Department of Consumer Science at Inha University), and professors from the Department of Consumer Science (Lee Sung-rim, Jung Jae-eun, Hwang Hye-seon, Park Tae-young, and Nam Su-jeong), along with doctoral-level researchers and around 50 graduate students who gathered to share their research achievements.
During the event, outstanding graduate students presented their research findings and engaged in an international academic seminar where they discussed their work with overseas scholars. The debate featured the participation of Professor Swarn Chatterjee from Georgia State University, who is also the President of the American Association for Consumer Research, and Professor Eunjin Kwak from the University of Wisconsin. The scholars discussed various research outcomes related to consumer behavior, including financial knowledge, medical consumption, and consumer text mining. Dean Kim Geun-se expressed, "I am delighted to be invited to this meaningful event, where we share the research achievements and contributions of the Department of Consumer Science," and Honorary Professor Kim Ki-ok passionately remarked, "I hope that we continue to actively ponder the societal mission and academic vision of consumer science and become proactive researchers in the field."
During the event, in celebration of Consumer Science Day, Honorary Professor Kim Ki-ok donated 10 million won to the Consumer Science Development Fund, while the Graduate Alumni Association, current students, and faculty members pledged a total of 23.7 million won in donations. Starting with last year's 10 million won contribution by Honorary Professor Ji Young-suk, the love and support for the Department of Consumer Science from Honorary Professors, alumni, and members of the department continue to grow.
Department Chair Park Tae-young expressed gratitude for the contributions made by Honorary Professors and emphasized the significance of the development fund, encouraging current students to devote themselves to their studies.
Officials from the Department of Consumer Science stated that in the future, Consumer Science Day events will be held as international research seminars where department alumni, graduate students, honorary professors, overseas scholars, and others can come together to share research achievements.
