Institute for Social Sciences

The Institute for Social Sciences is the biggest research institute in Humanities and Social Sciences field in SKKU. It consists of 9 research Institutes and 4 research centers in total.

Sustainable Urban Development Institute

The Sustainable Urban Development Institute was established on January. 11th, 2005 to study the theory of traffic planning, city development and city policy that serves as the foundation in the international society. It also aims to contribute to sustainable development and peace of international society, while contributing to the improvement of national competitiveness for national development based on research related to policy. It carries out the following :

  • 1. Study, survey and advise urban planning, urban traffics, and urban policy for city development
  • 2. Study, survey and advise education and promotions on civil officers and citizens to realize sustainable city development
  • 3. Receive studies entrusted from international organization, central and local government, public organization and private organization at home and abroad
  • 4. Hold workshops, seminars, education, academic lectures, research and presentations
  • 5. Distribute and publish study results and academic journals
  • 6. Construct joint research networks between professionals and related organizations at home and abroad regarding city planning, traffic planning and urban policy

Policy Evaluation Research Institute

The Policy Evaluation Research Institute was established on February. 1st, 2005 and has carried out the following tasks with a goal to improve reliability, to secure responsibility, to increase efficiency of national management through exchange and cooperation with related organizations at home and abroad, education and training, academic seminars, policy advise, research service; data survey and publication, academic research on formation of public policy, evaluation of management ability.

  • 1. Analytical evaluation and systematic evaluation of individual policy (project) unit
  • 2. Evaluation of central administrative agency, local self-governing organization, government investment organization
  • 3. Development of national evaluation theory and skills suitable to the governance era
  • 4. Evaluation of global governance and social development policy
  • 5. Evaluation of various policies done in the dimension of public audit or administration control
  • 6. Execution of service project and policy advise related to national evaluation
  • 7. Publication of data and holding of academic seminar related to national evaluation
  • 8. Cultivation of professionals through education and training related to national evaluation
  • 9. Improvement of research ability through exchange and cooperation with related organizations at home and abroad

This institute was established on December. 1st, 1995 and aims to carry out research and presentation activities, collect and exchange information, publish publications required to educate and foster journalists and program production personnel. For this purpose, this institute carries out the following projects based on the contents market, ads theory, culture theory, image theory and communication theory, combining broadcasting and communication.

Social Welfare Institute

This institute was established on March. 1st, 2003 and supports study, operation, evaluation of all policies related to social welfare, and contributes to systematic and scientific development and activation of the welfare field in Korea. Through this, the institute has carried out the following projects to contribute to systematic and scientific development and activation of the welfare field in Korea :

  • 3. Support of research expenses for special studies

Research Center for Human Resource Development

The Research Center for Human Resource Development was established for the purpose of "Performing the HUB role of human resource development research, carried out by leading research at the international level in the public management, public human resource management, human resource development, and public human resource development". Specific activities to achieve this goal are as follows :

  • 1. Evaluation as to the effectiveness, implementation, and development of various public human resource development programs
  • 2. Conduct international comparative studies on public human resource development
  • 3. Design strategies that link public human resource development reform with education, employment and welfare
  • 4. Research on the actual state of public human resource development process and training
  • 5. Training and consulting for building strategic human resources development policies and practices
  • 6. Research on human resources development policy, institutional, and practical strategies
  • 7. Research on the Korean human resource development policy creation and diffusion strategy
