Since a picturebook which combine two levels of communication, the visual and the verbal is appreciated as an unique art form, the attention has been paid to picturebook criticism. The purpose of this course is to guide graduate students majoring children’s literature to a fascinating study area, “how to criticise picturebooks”. This course is based on interdisciplinary approach encompassing diverse art criticism theories such as literature, visual art, and film. Especially, ‘dual audience’ which is considered as an unique genre feature of children’s literature will be dealt with in this course as well.

New and emerging trends in therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents will be explored. Interventions based on sound research and alternative approaches will both be the subject of study.

ESM is called Systematic Phenomenology because it departs from pure phenomenology by combining a focus on lived experience with an attempt to use the tools of empirical investigation-inculding available technoloties, research designs, and statistical analyses. Experiential data in different context are collected using mobile phone applications. Theoretical foundation and practical usage of this method will be explored with exisiting and to be collected data.

Examine school maladjustment experiences, such as bullying and victimization experienced by children and adolescents. Identify causes of the issue and seek effective strategies against school maladjustment. This course employs a theoretical and empirical lens to investigate available policies and social services to prevent school adjustment problems among children and youth.

This course addresses contemporary perspectives on stress and mental health problems from infancy through adolescents. Biological and psychological reponses and symptoms caused by various stressors and its relations to child health and development are reviewed.

This course provides students various internship experiences in the fields of child psychology and development. Education, observation, and supervision for students trainees are also provided. Field experiences emphasize intervention for developmental problems based on play, cognition, behaviors, emotion, and social interaction.

This course will introduce students to the understanding of principles of psychological testing of intelligence, personality, self-concept, and socioemotional ability. First, theories of assessment and diagnosis will be reviewed. Then, specific topics such as reliability, validity, errors, norms, standardization, and item response will be reviewed. Computer-based assessment method and ethical issues will be also reviewed.

This class deals with how to analyze quantitative data including data collection, data analysis, and interpretation of results. In particular, advanced techniques of statistical analysis and big data analysis will be also introduced in this class.

This course deals with psychological and developmental problems of children with traumatic disaster experiences. Intervention and ego-resilience will be also reviewed.
KID5175 Seminar on School Violence and Behavior Problem in Childhood 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
This class reviews theoretical knowledge on behavior problems and school violence issues in childhood and adolescence. In addition, this class introduces intervention strategies for children’s social adaptation and mental health.
